Stardust

Ziggy Stardust: the album and the character by David Bowie

Ziggy Stardust is the character of a rock star from another planet created by David Bowie, and the album that introduced him: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, released in 1972. The album made Bowie a star, and our band took its name from the same dust.

Who is Ziggy Stardust

Ziggy Stardust is an invented rock star who arrives on Earth to bring a message of hope and falls under the weight of fame. Bowie dressed the character in bright costumes, makeup and orange hair, and performed as him on stage for about a year and a half.

The character became a symbol of theatricality and of the freedom to choose who you are. On 3 July 1973, at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, Bowie announced Ziggy's retirement and moved on to the characters that followed.

The songs of the album

The album opens with Five Years, a song about a world that ends in five years, and moves through Moonage Daydream and Starman, among the most recognised songs in Bowie's catalogue. It closes with Rock 'n' Roll Suicide.

His backing band, The Spiders from Mars, was Mick Ronson on guitar, Trevor Bolder on bass and Woody Woodmansey on drums.

Ziggy Stardust and our tribute show

We named the band STARDUST because that dust, what Bowie left behind in every character he created and left, is what we try to bring to the stage: not the look, but the journey. Songs from this period are part of our show.
